If you’re dealing with an ant problem, you’ve probably heard all sorts of DIY ant removal ideas. One of those most simple solutions recommended to kill ants is to pour boiling water on the ant hills where the ants are originating from.
But does it actually work?
Yes, if you’re able to saturate the entire colony, it will kill ants inside. Don’t be skimpy on the water. Use a generous amount, and be careful not to burn yourself.
Since ant hills contain complex structures and tunnels, there’s no guarantee you’ll get every last ant, but pouring boiling water down the ant hill will kill a large portion of the insects and most likely ravage the colony.
This method works best outdoors. (It’s never a good idea to pour boiling water in crevices in your home.) Using boiling water is a safe and effective method of ant extermination if you don’t want to rely on pesticides or have a large number of ant hills on your property that you need to get rid of.
